The UAE offers many modern tennis courts and facilities. The game is promoted by the UAE Tennis Association (Tennis Emirates) which works closely with the tennis fraternity in the country for the betterment of the game. The association, which was formed in 1982 and now comprises more than 1,000 registered players, is working with the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare to establish a national tennis centre for the training of the national team.
The Mubadala World Tennis Championship, which is held at Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex in December every year, is one of the country’s premier tennis championships and marks the start of the global tennis season. The three-day event sees world’s top men players including Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer compete in a single elimination series of matches for USD $250,000 prize money.
Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex, part of Zayed Sports City, offers excellent facilities for tennis enthusiasts. Established in 2004, the complex comprises six world-class training courts. The Centre Court, which can seat 5,000 spectators, is the main attraction of the complex.
Twelve-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, an inaugural member of the UAE Royals tennis team, regularly undertakes warm weather training in the Emirate. “People love their tennis here,” he said.
