The UAE has many world-class Golf courses that offer golfers scenic fairways, well-manicured greens and large club houses. It also has desert golf courses which provide an exciting and unusual opportunity to experience playing golf on treated sand courses rather than lush greens.
The country also hosts some major golfing events such as the prestigious PGA European Tour Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, an initiative of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority held at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The championship runs for four days and offers prizes worth US$ 2.7 million.
The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), overseen by a Board of Directors under the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, is the governing body for amateur golf in the United Arab Emirates. The EGF was formed in 1996 and is affiliated to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, International Golf Federation, Ladies Golf Union, the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, the GCC Golf Committee and the Arab Golf Federation.
Abu Dhabi regularly plays host to some of the biggest names in golf. Major champion Henrik Stenson always looks forward to coming. “It’s a great way for me to start my season,” he said. “Good weather, good practice, good courses, good food, good hotels and we get well looked after”.
