FLASH Entertainment and Abu Dhabi Sports Council partner to form Local Organizing Committees for two major tournaments over the next three years
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) commends LOC on preparations during recent delegation stadium visit
The region’s largest sporting, music and entertainment events provider – FLASH Entertainment – is set to bring an exceptional line-up of football to the UAE after being appointed as the Event Operations Partner by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) to deliver both the FIFA Club World Cup 2017-2018 and the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019. Spearheading end-to-end event management for the high profile global sporting competitions, long-standing partners ADSC and FLASH together form the Local Organizing Committees (LOC) for two of the most significant footballing events to be hosted in the region in the next three years.
With less than 500 days to go until the first match of AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 kicks off in Abu Dhabi, preparations are already well underway across the Emirates. A delegation from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) recently travelled to Abu Dhabi to complete a tour of three stadiums across the capital, and have praised the LOC’s commitment to maintaining world-class standards for the event.
Mr. Shin Mangil, AFC Competitions Division Director, commented: “AFC is very pleased with the thorough preparation and progress made by the LOC to date, and we are very confident the 2019 competition will be a success on all levels. There is still much work to be done, but we are on schedule thanks to the local committee’s commitment, the experience and quality of delivery from FLASH Entertainment and the determination of all involved. We’re confident of hitting all milestones to produce a tournament of truly world-class standards.”
Returning for a second time to the Emirates, the expanded AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 kicks off in January 2019 and will see 51 matches played across the UAE, with the centerpiece opening and finale held at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi. This will be the biggest in the tournament’s history with eight more teams taking part than in 2015 – 24 of Asia’s best sides will battle it out to be crowned champions of Asia.
For football fans in the region, the coming months will offer unprecedented opportunities to live the thrill of the game and get up close with some of the greatest talents ever to grace a pitch. The world’s best players will descend upon the capital, with Spain’s Real Madrid, Mexico’s Pachuca, New Zealand’s Auckland City and UAE Host Team Al Jazira already qualified for December’s FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017. The remaining club champions will be determined this November with the conclusion of the AFC Champions League, CAF Champions League and Copa Libertadores. For FLASH Entertainment, playing host to the world’s most prestigious football tournaments is part of the company’s commitment to bringing first-rate sporting events to the capital.
John Lickrish, CEO of FLASH Entertainment, said: “Our mission across our portfolio, whether through live music, cultural festivals or football matches, is to create truly unmissable moments. Football is unique in its ability to incite passion in anyone. Whether you’re a super-fan or have never seen a game in your life, there is something very special about being part of a stadium crowd watching a live match. Over the next three years, we’re proud to be bringing more of those moments to the UAE through the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 and the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.”
He added: “With our partners at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, not only will we create unforgettable moments for the community but we are also proud to be contributing to the ADSC vision in making the UAE an epicentre for world sport. The eyes of the world will be on the UAE as the tournaments play out in our stadiums and fans celebrate across the Emirates. Not only do we have a global platform to showcase our abilities as a host city, but the tournaments will also have a direct impact on our economy through the inevitable increase in inbound sports tourism over the next three years.”
From 6 – 16 December 2017, the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 will welcome tens of thousands of sports fans, families and football fanatics to see seven of the best teams compete over the eleven-day event. The AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 takes place across eight stadiums in the UAE from January 5 – February 1, 2019.
